Lucas Coenen wins both motos in EMX250 Lommel

Lucas Coenen of Jumbo Husqvarna BT Racing has won both motos of the seventh round of the EMX250 Series at Lommel in Belgium. In the first moto he was under pressure till the finish flag but in the second moto he ran away from the rest of the field and won with an advantage of more than 30 seconds! Sacha came home in fifth position in the first moto but disaster struck the young Belgian in the second moto. He was riding inside of the top five till he made a small crash. Unfortunately he couldn’t restart his bike and was forced to retire from the race.

It was the home round for Lucas and Sacha so both youngsters were motivated to do well. In qualifying they were in the same group. Lucas posted the third fastest time and Sacha ended the session in fifth.

In the opening moto it was Sacha who took the holeshot and was leading the field through turn one. In the beginning he lost a few positions but after that he found his flow and managed to finish the race in fifth position. Lucas started the race outside of the top five but charged back to the top three. He managed to take over the lead but in the rest of the rest he was under pressure from the second placed rider. Lucas kept his head cool till the finish flag and won the race.

In the second moto the Coenen brothers were first and second through turn one. They both had a good beginning of the race till Sacha made a small crash. After the crash he wasn’t able to restart his bike and was forced to retire from the race. Lucas was riding a really high pace and ran way from the rest of the field. His advantage became bigger and bigger and finally he won the race with an advantage of more than 30 seconds over the second placed rider.

Lucas took the overall win with a double moto victory and sits in third position in the championship standings. Sacha ended up in twelfth position due to his DNF in the second moto. After seven rounds he sits in 23rd position in the championship standings.
